The prices for 240 pin desktop RAM seem to have been dropping for months now? Should I buy now or wait for even deeper discounts?

Prices have almost bottomed out. Manufacturers are saying that prices are very close to costs. Some analysts are predicting that after the system builders bring down their 30 day inventory and start replenishing their stocks, prices could start to inch up. The best time to buy is NOW. I'm about to buy 2x512Mb ddr2 SODIMM and 1X2Gb ddr2 DIMM.

Trying to time the price of RAM would be like trying to time the stock market. No one can predict the future, just guess. Personally unless I needed a ton of RAM, I would just buy it, after all you have to do without, for some period of time, and that has its own cost, and who's to say that if you wait a month and prices go down, you aren't going to be wonder the same thing about the next month?

I have seen 1GB DDR2 RAM for $29 on sale

About 12-15 years ago 1MB of RAM cost as much as 1GB ram now. So if you wait another 12-15 years you should be able to get 1TB (1000 GB) of RAM for what 1GB RAM costs today.
