I am traveling from Australia to the USA for the first time in September. And the last thing I want is to come down with some kind of cold or flu bug that will ruin my vacation.

The risk is higher because of three factors. 1 Your hygiene practices might be lower than at home 2. You are in a closed space with a lot of people 3. Your immunity system can be lacking because of jet lag.

Cold season starts when school gets back in, and you get a lot of kids, with lessor immunity, in small rooms. Sometimes it starts early, sometimes late.

You should make sure you wash your hands lot. And don't touch your face (eye, nose, mouth) Carry hand wipes or hand sanitizing cleaner. Wash your hands before eating, after the bathroom, and if you shake anyones hands, etc.

Try to avoid jet lag. Drink lots of water and juices. Try to get sleep the night before and during the flight.

"Overall we can get sick anywhere that is crowed and no ventilation so my suggestion is to take those airborne tablets as soon you get to airport or take Vitamin C weeks before your trip. Also weather changes tend to sicken people, wash your hands often when you can on the plane
people get sick from all the germs that are stuck inside plus we all breathing the same air yuck!"
Prevention is the best.
Have a nice trip.
