It was written by George Wilson and first sang by Arkie Shibley in 1950.

It was re-recorded by Red Foley, Tiny Hill, Bob Williams and Jimmy Dolan.

Asleep At The Wheel covered it too.

The one that is played mostly on "oldies radio" is Johnny Bond's 1960 version.

I had to come back and add something...The version done by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen wasn't released until 1971...All the other posters should check their history...

George Frayne didn't even form Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen until 1967. 17 years after it was written and released.
