being somewhat of a child myself i say shoot for the stars. if your student's parents cannot accept you- that's their problem, but at least your student will gain some major respect for the gay culture and possibly some hope if they themselves are gay when they mature. you may help them realize that sexual orientation means nothing- only hard work does. you go and be a teacher- the best teacher you can be, and don't let being gay limit you- embrace it and allow it to give you strength and confidence. i sincerely hope everything works out.
best wishes

The first thing you should do is find out whether the school you're thinking of working in has any policies (even unofficial ones) about homosexuality and/or gay staff members. If they seem fine about it, you can go ahead and become a teacher. There are plenty of single male teachers; not having a wife and kids does not automatically make you gay. There might be some parents who disapprove of having a gay man teach their children, but you will get people like that every where in life. You just have to shrug it off; if they have such a huge problem with it, let them complain to the principal. Hopefully, the majority of them either won't work it out, or won't mind. There are at least two or three (maybe more) gay teachers at my school, no one makes a big deal about them.
If being a teacher is really what you want to do, then go for it. Being gay shouldn't have to get in the way of what you want. Be prepared for negative reactions, but don't let that throw you off. The majority of the people won't make a fuss. Of course, if you WANT to go to law school instead, that's a fine direction to go in too (and being a lawyer tends to pay pretty well :P ). Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

As a parent, I would not have a problem with my son's teacher if he/she was gay or a lesbian. When I was in high school I had a teacher who was gay and you could tell by his behavior and everyone knew even though he didn't openly admit it. As a teenager then, I didn't have a problem with it and back then(the eighties) it was like people wouldn't admit to their sexual preference, now today in my opinion people are more opened. One last thing I also had a co-worker who taught four-year old kids and he was gay and none of the parents or other workers had a problem with it.

Go for it! There are lots of gay teachers. If you are a good teacher that is all parents will care about. Parents need not know anything about your private life. You will get the occasional bigot who thinks just because you are gay you might harm his child. However, those people will be in the minority. IF you love to teach go for it.
Being a lawyer is very different from being a teacher. You have to do what you love or you will be miserable!!

Go for it. We had a teacher who EVERYBODY thought was gay(turns out he wasn't) and everybody was fine, we even had an endearing nickname for him-Spongebob-because of his gay icon status in school. Your private life is nothing to do with the students and their parents so you should do whatever you want, if people don't like it then screw 'em I say!

Your sexuality should have nothing to do with your competence as a teacher, as long as you maintain your professional and as an authority figure and do your job well why should there be a problem but i guess it is something you will have to look into thoroughly good luck.

I think that it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, but think through it thoroughly before you make a move.
