alt delete
enter setup
change boot sequence to CD ROM first.

But, if the problem is only to recover password,
you do not need to format your computer.

Let a computer technician
remove battery or make a short circuit to it.
Then you can resetup your password.

If you still have your computer (motherboard) manual, you probably can do it by yourself.

When your PC start, read the text on your monitor. You will see the key to be pressed for entering your BIOS setup. Usually I found was Del key, but it may vary with the vendors ("alt+Del" as iyiogrenci told, other is "F2" key).

As iyiogrenci said, all you have to do to remove the password is turn off your PC, take out the CMOS battery and put it back again. Sometime you only need to take out a jumper from its pin, put it in neighboring pin, and put it back again to its original pin. Refer your manual to locate the battery or the jumper.

Did you have a relative or a friend who is a computer geek?

If you set it up to boot from CD, just insert the XP install CD and start the computer. Setup will launch.
