No relevance, that's just foolish. The past has a great determinacy of what we do right now, and what we will do in the future. Imagine that you are beginning right this moment, you would be but a foolish child, blind to the world that is at hand. The past has much to do in molding your future, much more than you or I are even conscious of, plain and simple.
"All that you are is what you have thought."
Buddha
Sorry if I strayed on that a bit, a little drunk, my friends just left, just fillin in the time.

I see past as hope for a better tomorrow without past no hope can be had. A world without hope seems like a world I would fight to make sure never happens. I believe the past is worth fighting for killing probably not but fighting for yes. Its important enoth that your great great great grandparents gave there lifes understanding they would be a part of it. I hope you will do the same if time asks this much of you and not flee into the frozeness of none existance.

It's important to learn from the past, but not dwell on it.
Of course it's important and relevant -- it's what has made you the person you are. But you shouldn't keep looking back at it all the time -- a small rear view mirror on the dashboard of your mind should suffice. :-)

Perhaps we can benefit from reflecting on our own experiences because we can reinforce a behavior that brought happiness to us and we can discourage behavior in our life that brought unhappiness to us.
But I think the more important thing is that our past experiences can help others much more than they can help us. Especially if we have made a very specific kind of common error. Perhaps our experiences climbing out of difficult situations can be very encouraging for people who find themselves in those very same situations.

The past is only a memory and as such is highly subjective to the way we felt or currently feel while remembering the thought. The zenith lies within the moment.
The past gives a reference point in which to move from this moment. It gives us and our surroundings identity, so long as we maintain a sense of past.

Santayana (paraphrased, I think): Those who don't remember the past are forced to repeat it.
My favorite on the past and its importance (implied), Faulkner at the Nobel Awards: "The past is not dead; in fact, it is not even past."
Whether or not you learn from it, it is a fact, and you are a part of it, and its relevance is sewn into your being.

It depends on your philo of life. If you see life like I do, as completely meaningless, then nothing is important.
if you see some goal to humanity, then what is that goal? Is understanding the past important to that goal? It's up to you.
