Chip, high voltage coil, multi spark ignition unit are inexpensive and easy to install. Exhaust will not help much unless you change your cam shafts with more aggressive ones along with high quality headers

For a 1993 318i, you should be careful looking at your total bill for these upgrades, it wouldn't take much more money to actually upgrade the whole car itself!

A 1993 325i for example would not cost much more. And you'll have all the extra power without needing to fiddle around with the car and messing up the fine balance of the car.

As it stands, your 1.8L 4-cylinder engine may only give very marginal performance gains with a chip; which you may or may not notice. The only other "cheap" upgrade is to install a nitrous oxide kit. But check the price and see if it's even worth your time and money.

Thats not tuning your car. You should probably have the engine tune done by a trained mechanic.
