It doesn't seem to matter whether the long hair looks good (or is even healthy or shiny). Why is long hair on a woman so important to guys?

To the person who suggests that I got the wrong info: this actually happened to me! I recently cut 6 inches of hair off and the guy I've been seeing for 6 months almost had a heart attack, and tried to make me promise not to cut it again. I told him he was insane and to take a hike!

There have been studies that prove men are attracted to long hair because it signifies good health and fertility. Subconsciously men are hardwired to notice tiny details in women such as fullness of the cheeks, color of the skin and other more sexual details that indicate a good candidate for passing on genes with a good partner. On a purely animalistic (pre health care caveman days) level a woman that is healthy enough to grow nice long hair is probably not sickly or vitamin deficient. It is a biological advantage for a male to pass on his genes to a female that is healthy enough to carry his offspring to term and beyond.

Do Guys Prefer Long Hair

This has been a question that has plagued my mind for years and is definetely a sensitive one for a person of color. I am simply perplexed by the idea that long hair is the standard of beauty. As a person who will probably never grow my hair longer than my shoulders as most african american women, it seems that we will never be found attractive based upon this question. Not only is this superficial but it is bewildering. I am not sure how to really answer your question but I definetely want to open some eyes. Short hair can be beautiful and just as lovely as long hair and i am living proof and so are many others. So for all of you looking for that long haired girl, u might be missing out on ur soul mate with the "short bob" lol.

I asked a question earlier today about whether people make assumptions about white men in relationships with women of color. Of course everyone says no because it's not politically correct, but I know most people will typecast you or your partner when you're in interracial relationship. I get the impression that you haven't been exposed to a lot of relationships between women of color and white guys because you only mentioned your niece, but see how incredibly easy it was that they became the representation for all of them. Most likely a woman who is "emotionally unstable" and does not have a lot social contact doesn’t give a damn about looks. Of course she’s all over his d/ck- she’s lonely! No friends also means less than satisfactory dating life, despite the fact that you claim all these (black?) men that you wanted her to date were surrounding her. (I assume that from the Idris Elba comment). Furthermore, a well-educated man coming out of medical school is going to have amazing looking girlfriends at some point. Now that he’s a doctor, he’s going to have plenty more like her if they don’t decide to stay together. Believe it or not, they make a good match. She is emotionally unstable, and he’s a psychiatrist. He understands her more than the vast majority of men- white, black, Hispanic, Asian, whatever. And she's dating someone well-educated and high-achieving. On the other hand, he gets to have the hot girl that’s not arrogant, not high maintenance, loves him to death and eager for sex because of her social background. This is a win-win relationship regardless of race. I wouldn't be surprised if they stay together.

As a man, I do not think long or short hair is of any importance. Those who do perhaps have a preference, but that shouldn't make a difference in my opinion.

Long hair on women is mostly important to shampoo commercials. I don't know any of my buddies that have such a preference. I think your post is irrelevant because I do not think the stigma exists.

It is not important. What is, is the woman, not her hair length. Someone has told you something that is not true.

Well long hair is simply beautiful to look at. There's no explanation needed for that. But I also think it gives them an idea how well a woman would nurture a living thing to good health. Granted her hair is very healthy and long.

Men are attractive to long hair because of the wave like motion it makes from a woman's graceful movement. This may also be true of a light summer dress or a long pair of earrings. These extensions of a woman's body offer hints of self beauty and elegance, through movement, form, and posture.

I like long hair on women, it is one of the things that capture my attention right away. So I would have to believe that it is more instinct than anything else. I believe that men deep down wether they know it or not are always looking for the best candidate to pass their genes on. This is probably one of those natural instincts that men cannot turn off without a lot of effort.
