Try using a glade light show. It really works and smells up my whole house! and refills are not that expensive! If there is a smoker in the house try to get them to go outside or empty ashtrays in a closable bag and tie it up as frequently as possible. Also if there is pets in the house try to change the litter box as soon as possible! Hope this helps!

Depending on what the odor is that you smell- you can use baking soda on your carpet, sprinkle just a bit all over the carpet and let sit for 20-30 minutes and then vacuum it up, also you can use vinegar in a bowl just let it sit in a room for a day or so and it neutralizes the odor, also burning scented candles while you are at home (never leave a lit candle unattended) will help freshen the home nicely! Washing all curtains and hanging outside will really freshen things up also! And airing the house out with all windows open will help alot too!

Well it depends. The first thing that comes to mind is when my house was clean after the housekeeper left one day and yet I smelled this horrible smell for days. Come to find out, she had mistakenly turned the knob on the gas wall heater in my bathroom. Gas was leaking out, but of course it wasn't on so the gas was seeping all thru my house. It made the house smell like rotten eggs. Finally, someone came over and recognized the smell and saved our lives.

look for that last potato...
check your dish cloth for sour smells
see if some one spilled milk on the carpet.
Wash your curtains, wash the windows and sills
clean the carpet.don't let people smoke in the house, and make sure there isn't any poop hiding in the corner.
now, boil some Cinnamon and apples with a little vanilla and I am sure all will be right with the world. Most of us have a little smell in the house (or are afraid we might) after a long winter
That's why its called spring cleaning! Have fun I am done!

I have that problem from time to time....stinky dog, fish tank, KIDS! I sprinkle baking soda around the house(even on furniture) and vacuum it up an hour later. Glade plug-ins are great. So are the Airwick oils.
I have a pot on the stove that I put potpourri or cinnamon sticks in w/water and put it on VERY low. Just fill it with water when it needs it. Everyone loves the way my house smells! They also sell potpourri warmers, they look like a small crock pot.
OH! That foam spray for carpets is a great quick refresher.

No need to use bleach or glade plug-ins (etc), which are both toxic to your health and the health of anyone else who comes into your home (and who wants to smell bleach, anyway?). First, air out your house by opening windows and circulating the air. Buy some scented soy-based (not petroleum-based!) candles and light them, or find a good-smelling essential oil (like lavendar) and heat it over a candle (they sell these apparatuses for cheap). Also, if you have a smelly garbage disposal, placing orange rinds into it will freshen it right up. Also, flowering plants (as long as you take care of them so they don't die and get smelly!) and fresh flowers are always a great way to make your house smell great. Lastly, (and if you need an excuse to eat treats!) bake some cookies or brownies! :)

Air out the house - open windows and doors to let fresh air in and get rid of musty odors. Open blinds and curtains to let sunshine in as well.
Clean your curtains, carpets, and furniture. Wash the floors and the walls. These things retain smells, even though they look clean.
Change the vacuum bag and add a tablespoon of cinnamon or another pleasant-smelling spice. When you vacuum, you'll freshen the air as well.

Get some candles at Wallmart. They are cheap and have some great smells.
I have one in the restroom for the sudden smell that can develop at times. It really neutralizes that smell quickly.

I'm a big fan of Fabreeze. I spray it on everything from the carpet to the drapes. I also have a Fabreeze Scentstories machine that does a great job of keeping my apartment from smelling like smoke.
