There were a collective of camp sites, about 7 miles North of Netherland. We shared food and what ever we had and went skinning dipping in Rainbow Lake, got busted and had to make psycodellic signs "No swimming, you get busted". Janis partied up plenty of sunshine. All the camps had different names. One was the Rainbow Family. She stayed in my camp because I had a guitar and we had several bricks for a... sitting around the campfire. We looked out for each other and there were all camp meals, everyone was welcome. Many notable performers passed through. Janis was a stand out. We often traveled to Boulder to play with other musicians in the park. Now and then the locals came and caused trouble, they were afraid we were forming a hippie army lol. We were all friends and neighbors living together in the woods. Does anyone out there remember being there? End of the summer I left for Woodstock but my VW broke down and NY Freeway was closed, never saw her again. Still miss you.

~My brother and I were doing a gig at Red Rocks and Janis rolled in. She ended up taking most of my Jack and all of my brother's 'shrooms, but it was worth it. Boy could that Momma wail. We did about 3 hours with her and she crashed in our VW bus. The next morning, she couldn't even remember she had been singing with us. Gotta love the '60s. 5 weeks later, she was at Bethel and I was back slinging burgers, but I had one hell of a year that night. My brother went to Woodstock and she actually remembered him. She got Country Joe McDonald to let him play with the Fish. That was the best experience of his life. 7 months after playing back up bass on "Next Stop is Viet Nam" in front of 250,000 mindless, high, muddy, wet and totally involved people, my brother came home in a box. I still thank Janis for giving him that opportunity, may they both rest in peace. But Lord, I'm still waitin' for my Mercedes Benz.
