I went to the doctor our company is covered for medical insurance. But then she advised me that since my cyst is still small, i just need to observe first, touch and feel the cyst everyday if its getting bigger. If Yes, she told me that i must go back to her and make me a schedule for an operation. Is she doing her best for my health then?what if i will decide for an operation, will the cyst come back ? as what my friends advised me, its much better to have it operated immediately even if it is not getting bigger, so that when i have a wound on my breast its not gonna be that big! im really confused on what to do! help me pls. iam 24 years old turning 25 this december 2007.

Consider being seen by a second Dr. to gain a "second opinion" This is a common thing to do for surgeries, and required by some insurance companies.

Most often the procedure to remove a cyst is done in a clinic with the help of ultra-sound and a needle to collapse and extract the contents of the cyst. A numbing medicine is used in the localized area, and the patient is awake, and can watch the ultra-sound machine's screen while the procedure is done. This same thing is done for a "biopsy" where only a small sample portion is extracted and sent to the lab for testing.

Over the past 40 years I have known women who have had breast cancer, but only one was in her early 20's. Odds are in your favor that this is only a common cyst and it can all be handled with only a needle.

First, take a deep breath. You're going to be okay. I have had a cyst removed from each breast and one that disappeared on its own. I was horrified to find a cyst in each breast at the young age of 20. I came home from college on Thanksgiving break and had each removed. Around age 22 I found another cyst in one breast and was scared this would go on forever. Since both previous cysts were fibroid and non cancerous we decided to leave this one for a while and see what happened. I really think that me drinking a lot of caffeine (ie Mt Dew) was contributing to this. I have not had any new cysts appear and the last one went away. I'm now 26 and cyst free. You should have an ultrasound on the cyst and the ultrasound will be reviewed by a specialist. If they are not concerned I would keep an eye on it and see what happens. If they are concerned and recommend surgery no problem there either. I have two small (1cm) scars, one on each breast. One's almost un-noticeable. Your doctor always knows what's best for you...

Did they do an ultrasound to confirm that it was a really a cyst? The reason the doc is just asking you to observe it is that at your age a cystic mass is most often benign. However, if you are not comfortable with this, you have every right to ask for further workup.
What is usally done is a needle aspiration. The fluid that is drained out is analysed for signs of cancer. Often, once the fluid is aspirated, the cyst disappears.

A cyst is usually a benign fluid filled pouch...Most Dr's. will wait to see if it will go away on it's own and many will....A large number of women have simple breast cysts.and never know it..If they do not go away on their own you can have them drained with a needle or cut out....Having them aspirated (drained) is easier but they may come back because the pouch the fluid was in is left behind..
Chances are good if you have one you'll have another one.....Don't worry yourself to death...Have a Ultrasound to confirm it's still there and is indeed a simple cyst....Some Dr's suggest cutting back on chocolate, caffeine and cigarettes to reduce occurrences of breast masses..Talk to your Dr and make a informed decision.......

You need to see a specialist like a dermatologist no matter if the insurance covers it or not. Specialists are 5 times better than regualr MD practitioners. My father told me before he passed away that doctors who specialize are way better and he was a nurse. Go see a specialist.

My mother had the same thing. Having it removed was very easy and didn't require a hospital stay. Recovery was also very easy. You need to be careful because women our age are getting cancer.
