Curly tails are a heritable trait which is strongly dominant. Through several generations of careful breeding it is possible to produce straight-tail pigs, but it takes only one generation to return to curly tails.

Because a long time ago little kids pulled on their tails so much that it started to become like a spring thus becoming curly! :)
