Does anyone know how often the world tournament is held in dragonball and dragonball Z?

In dragonball each tenkaichi budokai was held every 5 years. Due to the growing number of participants, it was then held every 3 years ever since.

In the show its like every 6 months or either a year. it all depends on the plot of the story
