cleaning means formatting or deleting right??
Do you think there is some mechanism that wipe out all files from the hard disk???
No it doesn't removed or cleaned from the disk, it stays there until the space is occupied by another file.
CONFUSED???
Well.. when you clean some files from your drive results clearing of entry in the file system, A file that manages the space for each file, created by the OS .
Eg: FAT32,NTFS,ext3..
These file system files manages operations that done with your hard disk, It removes the entry from the FS file, not from the HD, and consider that space as free space and whenever a new file comes it checks for the suitable space if there it allocate it in to that space we freed by removing files.
I think you got the answer

Do you mean "clean up" your hard drive?
If you clean your hard drive, you mean to reformat it, then everything will be gone. You should put all your files and folders on CDs before doing it. Or keep backups on CDs of all your data, in case your hard drive crashes.
If you mean "clean up" your hard drive so it runs faster, then nothing will happen to your files and folders, that you can see. They will be put in order on the hard drive.
You should do a disk clean up and a disk defrag to do a clean up.
A good program that does a clean up faster is CCleaner, you can find it at www.filehippo.com.
After installing CCleaner, you should start in safe mode F8 while your computer is booting and do a cleanup and a disk defrag.
IF you want to do it by yourself, here's a good site to help
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/techfiles/clean_hd.html
Hope that's what you meant. Good luck

They will still be on the hard drive but you will not be able to access them. You need a disk eraser to clean it and remove all the files.

It depends on how your clean it, if you reformat, everything is lost, but if you use the disk cleanup utility or similar, it just removes temp files etc.
