A Flop is when someone just fakes it and gets amount of the calls......people say Manu or Verajao are floppers and they look like they get the calls at some point. It just happens and I guess thats how the NBA is now. other players and fans have to settle with it. Another flopper not many fans talk about is Ben Gordon...... Dont believe me,well see as his career progresses

To me a flop is only considered a "flop" when it is used to stop or gain the upper hand on a player. A flop can be a good play if say your drawing a charge or going strong to the hole, b/c in most of those situations, a little over dramatization is needed for the refs to recognize that a foul has taken place. On the other hand, for example, if a player gets beat on a cut to the basket and instead of trying to recover, he suddenly throws himself in the opposite direction that the cutter is going, he is then creating the illusion that he was shoved to the ground, enticing the officials to call the foul on the cutter. The cutter is therefore stopped by the call of the official instead of the opposing defense.......That would be a flop.

A flop is when a player exaggerates minor contact, or simply throws himself backward to make it appear as if an offensive foul has been committed. It is not inherently negative because offensive players flail their arms to get fouls too, but I think it's getting to be excessive and the refs are only encouraging more of it. I think there should be more no-calls. This would encourage players to increase toughness and quickness, actually forcing them to get in front of the opponent and get set. It hurts but if done right, the offensive player probably will go around you next time.

flopping is exacerbated by the way fouls are called. even after zone defenses became legal, the basketball rule system is still biased toward offensive production. the problem is, that if theres contact on a drive, and no one falls, 9 times out of 10, the call will be in favor of the offense. The only way for defenders to get calls in their favor is to fall down. its a sucky fact, but that seems to be the way it is.
