I was in Ft. Worth and saw a U.S soldier get spat on by a complete stranger in an airport. How can people possibly hate our troops for serving us individually and serving our country? I grew up when people did not respect the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance, which makes me feel sick. Kids grow up having too much handed to them while not knowing the true value of their own hard earned money. I see little teenaged brats getting everything handed to them on their “super sweet 16”(a new car, a 100,000 dollar birthday party) and I feel angered. I almost feel we deserve other countries to hate us for these self-absorbed anti-patriotic whiney-kids. I feel like if we don’t whip these kids up into shape soon our country will have no future. What happened to the great U.S i used to know? (perhaps it's hidden in Texas?)

Yes i was visiting in about 03 or 04 and a guy came a to a soldier and spat on his shoes. People's mouths dropped even I was a bit stunned. Texans are the most patriotic people I've ever met.

My real point is this person did not understand the purpose of this soldier because they were too ignorant and rude to care.

I happen to be very Liberal but my only point I am trying to cross is people who get too smart and abuse their rights. Some one at my school once said something racist and claimed to have freedom of speech even though what they said could have been considered "lewd and controversial."

The left are the true Patriots because they complain openly when they see government wrongdoings. The Conservative Right is loathe to do that because they see the nation as a corporation and the Administration a their bosses.

The US Constitution says that voicing opinions will save democracy. That's why it's the absolute first Amendment. You should read it to know who the true Patriots are. The Patriots started a revolution to create a new nation.

What you saw was RUDENESS by a sick person. Patriotism has nothing to do with it.

This nation was built on hardworking poor people. When capitalists brought consumerism to this nation and made everyone want to spend, spend spend, democracy took a backseat. Get involved with local government and do your part.

Left, right, middle.....Americans have lost the ability to disagree without being disagreeable. It's a sad fact that we learned a lot of our ways from the men and women we elect to serve us. The promises made aren't kept. Morals have hit the bottom. The media is not reporting the truth but their version of what they want the viewers to believe. At the very time all Americans should be standing proudly together and honoring those who are in harms' way willing to give their lives for our freedom, we're so busy squabbling among ourselves that the real heroes go unnoticed. How can we expect our young people to use good manners, groom and dress themselves appropriately and respect others or themselves? We will reap the bitter harvest of our actions. It's time for Americans to shape up and show themselves accountable for their words, their choices, and the children they're raising.

Anti-war sentiment that is disrespectful to our servicemen is a form of Left wing liberalism that is not really new. The "new left" dates back to the Vietnam era. The new left whose ranks are now in there 50's and 60's were fed up with government and found reinforcement for their beliefs in the scandals of Watergate with President Richard Nixon. Many in the new left characterized American soldiers as "baby killers" and brutes. They sympathized with communist revolution, and doubted the moral superiority of republican democracy.

Actually, there has been a resurgence in patriotism since the Reagan era presidency. While "post-modern" relativism is de rigeur in academia, and the upper crust of urban life, much of America is still grassroots traditiional geographically. Most counties in the United States carry a majority of persons who would characterize themseleves as "traditional" or conservative. This is evidenced by the "red" map in the 2000 and 2004 election.

Take heart, even though a majority of Americans now oppose the war in Iraq, most of those same people respect the sacrifice and heroisim of American troops. Americans disagree over whether we should bring them home now or let them finish the fight. Those who dare disrespect them, bring shame to themselves and their former hippie parents who in many cases now know better.

Our servicemen and women are heroes and deserve only the highest regard. Mostly that is what I see them receiving when they return home, at least around here. I know that I personally say, "Thank you."

I think your experience at the airport is a bizarre exception. People love our troops these days. That's what I see.

Also, "left wing" is not "anti-patriotic," either. Sorry, but we actually care about America and its people, and we're willing to speak up and do something when we find America and its people in a bad situation. Stay tuned.

Spoiled rich kids are a blight from the smelly loins of Republicans, anyway.

You and several other people witnessed someone spitting on a service member, yet you and your fellow voyeurs could not rouse yourselves out of your suburban slumber to speak out or take any action at all.

WHY is the pledge to the flag important to you? WHAT does the flag mean to you? WHO are the brave and free Francis Scott Key spoke of in the Star Spangled Banner? Apparently he wasn't talking about you and your fellow Texans, since you could not even verbally protest the actions of the spitter.

We as a nation, left and right wingers, have lost touch with who we were destined to become. We blindly believe everything we are told on TV and at the White House. We have ridiculed and ignored anyone who questions authority. If you think back, there was never even one piece of evidence presented against Iraq before we invaded them, yet most of us silently went along with it. We foolishly, blindly trusted Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell when they said over and over the evidence was a slam dunk. Reporters by and large never bothered to check sources. We the people did not ask serious questions. There was no accountability. No one in a position of authority was fired or charged with anything in the wake of 9/11 or the Iraq Invasion.

We live in a Nation controlled by fear, run by secrets and Secret Police. We have 750 military bases overseas, and we have 10,000 nuclear missiles, yet we threaten to kill thousands of people if a country dares to build 1 missile to deter attacks. We have over 30,000 military personnel watching the border of Korea, and 150,000 in Iraq, yet supposedly we cannot afford to patrol our Southern border.

I believe we can be a free, brave and proud nation once again. I believe Truth does matter. I believe the ideas expressed by our founding fathers in the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Star Spangled Banner are still great ideas and still relevant. That's why I'm totally supporting Dr. Ron Paul for President. He's the only one who is interested in truly changing our nation for the better.

"Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state." --Thomas Jefferson

Do not allow Fear to rob you of your Liberty and Freedoms.

The spit is actually a crime, as it should be...

I support the troops but detest the cause... in the end, most of them are no different then anyone else supporting the system...

I would rather prove an ideology wrong then spit on it..

and you should have RESPECT for all people, unless they are exploiting you....

well I see a materialist society because of the embracing of false patriotism..
as for patriotic...well,

"Patriot: the person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about. "

--Mark Twain

I'm a teenage brat that doesn't just get **** handed to her. Not all kids just get **** handed to them, some actually have to lift more than a damn finger to get ****. So you can shove your non-educated opinion up your ***. Liberals are the reason this country went to ****! Liberals are the ones who wanted their people to have all these unneeded rights. Well you got what you asked for. Now people have the rights and they are going to use them.

Somebody spat on a solider at DFW? I am shocked--shocked and dismayed. Everytime I see military folks there, they are treated royally....upgraded on flights whenever possible by the airlines, I've see first class passengers switch seats with them, groups of people gather to "greet" soliders as they arrive on leave.

Please don't judge the support of our military by North Texans by one jerk. We support our troops big time!

Left more often than not refers to Democrats and Liberals, Right is more often than not Republicans and conservatives, despite the fact that that's now not continuously the case. There are liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats, however now not as normal as the primary instance.
