My son is four months old as of today. We actually started him on Stage 1 foods last week. He is completely okay with them. He had no problem adding them to his diet. But that's not my problem. My problem is: he does fine on the Stage 1 foods and that's all I feel comfortable with at this point. We are living with my wife's parents right now and my wife's mother keeps buying and feeding him Stage 2 foods. You can tell by how it comes out the other end that he needs to stick with the Stage 1. I have repeatedly asked/told her not to feed him Stage 2 foods. So now she does it anyway and is trying to convince me that 1 and 2 are the exact same thing in different sized jars. I know this is not true. But, what I do not know is: Can this hurt him? What kind of problems, if any, can this cause? How should I deal with this situation (because I'm just gonna flip out and yell at her eventually, because that's obviously all she can understand)?

For the most part the only difference is the size of the jars. Some of them are thicker but only slightly. I am feeding my 7 month stage 3 foods now and I didn't feed him stage 1 at all. At 4 months he went started with stage 2 foods.
Its okay just chill it won't hurt him at all I won't cause any problems with him. Its just baby food there are larger battles that you will have to deal with later on in life. Relax dude.

First of all, babies main nutrition for the entire first year is supposed to be from breast milk or formula (this does not mean they can't have food, just that the milk is the main source of their nutrition). Baby should be given breast or bottle first and then offered solids. And if he's eating a stage 2 jar, he may not be getting all the milk he needs.

2nd- stg 2 jars contain higher allergy foods and some have sugar. Some stage 2 foods have high allergy foods like strawberries and raspberries that aren't supposed to be fed to babies til after 9mo.

Also, to watch for allergies foods should be introduced individually at least 4 days apart. Like if you are doing fruits give applesauce for 4 days then add peaches (once they have had a food for 4 days without any problems, you can then add them to new foods) when you start the peaches he can have applesauce and peaches etc. Alot of the stg 2 foods have many ingredients and the stg 1 foods are usually single ingredient foods.

I think your wife should be the one to tell them to stop. It would be much harder for you as the son in law. I agree with the post that said to say the dr said to stop. Like you went to the dr and he asked what he was eating and you said stage 2 jars and the dr freaked out.

Good luck!

Stage 1 and 2 are similar, but not the same. I would sit down with your wife and mother in law and talk together and tell the mother in law you do not want the baby eating them. Maybe call a WIC representative or your doctor to back you up, because they will. Most babies should not start solids until they are about 6 months old to begin with, so I would definately do whatever is needed to stick with the Stage 1 for now. Good Luck.

Yes it can hurt him because his tummy is not mature enough to digest these type of foods. He could get diarrhea and if your family has a history of allergies.. it could worsen it if your baby has it..

YOU ARE THE CHILD'S FATHER.. YOU HAVE TO START TAKING CONTROL..

My son was born with a big appetite.. He was 9.3 lbs.. He was nursing every hour without fail.. It was like clockwork.. He also had eczema.. He got that from my husband's side.. He didn't like formula and so when he reached 4 months.. I started him on baby food Stage 1.. The food when I looked at it was so nasty.. so I ended up buying organic freshly made baby food for him.. They delivered it to my house and you can totally tell the difference.. It also has tons of nutrients and better flavor because it's not preserved using high temperatures unlike the jarred baby foods..

Anywayz, so it was stage 1 at 4 months and stage 2 at 6 months onward..

For the in law problem.. this is what I suggest.. Stop buying jarred foods (if you can).. You can make your own stage 1 baby foods.. It is so easy and you can put the excess in cube trays and freeze em.. then put it in a ziploc so when you need cubes, you can pop 1 or 2 pieces into the microwave.. just make sure you stir it.. then you tell your in law.. that u don't buy jarred foods anymore because they have no nutrients in it , it's so much better for the baby and much cheaper and fresher.. Tell her you are banning all jarred foods.. You can go to this website for recipes..

If she makes her own, u could just throw it out when she's not looking.. If everything else fails.. I would just yell at her if that's the only language she understands..

Tell her to get her own kids if she wants to feed them her way..

Hi I have a 4 month old daughter that I started on stage 1 foods 4 days ago and my own mother bought stage 2 and was feeding her and i told her no and she said that there just bigger. Stage 2 is reccomended for ages 6 months and up. There are added sugars that baby isnt ready for yet. They also have a larger variety but its when berries are introduced and pineapple that needs to be watched very carefully cause of allergies. Some are also thicker so dont listen to there just bigger not true. I yelled at my mom cause she wouldnt listen and she hasnt done it since. Take up for your baby cause it eats whatever is put into its mouth not knowing it could be harmful.

Most ped's suggest now that you don't start feeding your baby solids until they are 6 months old. Honestly stage 1 and 2 are basically the same thing just different portions. Stage 2 portion is more than the baby needs right now at his age. If he fills up on solids he will be missing out on the nutrients he needs from his milk. Next time your baby has a check up have your mother-in-law tag along and bring it up with the Dr that Way your Dr. can straighten her out.
Good Luck & Bless U All

The point 2 jars say approximately 6 months. point 2 remains a mushy puree of nutrition and doesnt contain chunks, this is basically a tad thicker and attainable in bigger bins. My son replaced into ingesting point 2 by utilising 4 months previous (he began solids at 3 months). as long as your newborn is ingesting the point a million without subject, and is ingesting adequate in an afternoon so which you're actually not dropping the upward thrust in volume (basically questioning finacially), there truly isnt numerous a distinction from a million-2, point a million is a 2.5 ounce, point 2 is 4oz (different than the gerber plastic tubs, they are 3.5 oz.. If hes ingesting precise with none swallowing subject concerns and not spitting issues out, in case you think of he's waiting,, attempt it! appropriate of high quality fortune

Stage Two is not appropriate at four months - he will just poop them out because he cant digest foods that well yet. Also, it is too chunky and may increase choking hazard.
Talk with your wife, and get her to back you up - this is your baby, and PARENTS should make the rules.
Yelling is counter productive - you are a parent now, learn to solve problems without blow-ups.

stage 1 foods are from 4-6 months and stage 2 are from 7 months this is a bit too early to be feeding him stage 2 foods, they are lumpier and contain foods that his digetive system arent allowed until later on, it can cause tummy aches and maybe constipations, it may also cause allergies to certain foods. stage 2 foods contain alot of red meats which babies under 6 month arent suppose to have as their digestive system is not strong enough for them! stand your ground he is your son too and you dont want him to be having foods hes not suppose to! they cant care for him that muchif they want to risk him getting ill!

stage 2 foods are chunkier than stage one. He should not be on stage 2 until he can sit up on his own then stage 3's when he can stand. i would sit down and talk with her and explain to her he cannot handle the stage 2's because they are chunkier than stage 1's. You know whats better for your baby than everybody else and she needs to respect that (not to sound rude) I had the same problem with my mother and it took me to talk to her to get it fixed. explain they are causing problems with his body and he needs to be on stage1 for now. until you feel hes ready u are his father and u know best. u started him just on time. drs and wic will tell you 4 months is the best age to start a baby on cereals and baby food. your doin good good luck
