Unless your arrangements are very temporary IE: moving out of the country in 6 months or something along those lines you do not want to rent furniture. Decent quality furniture should last for many years. Renting for that long would be VERY expensive.

Buy what you NEED first. Probably a bed to sleep in and a chair to sit in. From there buy additional items as you can afford to. Resist the temptation to fill the whole apartment with furniture bought on credit. For one thing finance charges add up quickly and balances can be tough to pay down, especially for a young person just starting out. Secondly, you will probably be moving quite regularly for at least a few years. Think about how you will fit the furniture you buy now into your next apartment and maybe even your first house.

Don't forget to hit up relatives, co-workers and friends for "hand me down" furniture. Thrift stores, Classifieds and Craigslist are other places to look for cheap starter furniture. Second hand pieces may not be pretty, but they can get you started and let you save you some money for something alot nicer.

Finally, whatever you do, DO NOT fall for the "Rent To Own" scam. People end up paying many times the purchase price of an item before they actually "own" it. "Rent to own" is illegal in some communities because of their deceptive tactics.

Good luck and enjoy your first apartment!

I would suggest to buy furniture and don't rent, unless the apartment you are renting comes with furniture that you can use while you live there.

If you are on a budget, go hunting around for garage sales and buy some good quality furniture second hand to start with. Over the years you can slowly upgrade and replace your furniture with something new. Or go for cheaper furniture first, like from IKEA, which will last you for a few years.

Do not rent - it is a waste of money! You can find good furniture cheap in the Classifieds or at Garage Sales. Goodwill or Salvation Army or any 2nd hand store will have furniture too. You absolutely can find good furniture 2nd hand.

Do not rent!! You will end up paying many times more than the original price.

Look for freecycle.org. People - like myself - often get new furniture and need a way to get rid of the old but still good stuff! There is no obligation to take something if you do not like it, and it's all free!

If you`ve already rented your apartment buy the furniture. Don`t rent.
Ask the manager`s if they have any furniture or better yet a furnished apt.

If you have`nt rented yet, find a furnished apt or small house even.

Look around and you can get free furniture. There are a lot of people looking to get rid of it. Otherwise check out a Goodwill. They usually have cheap, used furniture.

never rent furniture. it is a big waste of money. go to garage sales and the goodwill or thrift shops. look in the paper under "free" and take your pic. i outfitted my first house this way. looked great until I could afford to get real furniture.

It's cheaper to buy your own furniture as opposed to renting, which is way too expensive.

Go to the Goodwill, Craig's list, buy real cheap. Then save up for what you want.

Do not rent.
