I'm glad I found this question because who better to help out an out-of-stater moving to Big T than a Texan? Well, it mostly depends on which part you're moving to, but in general, here's some things to know. We take pride in our history and heritage (except for the whole slave thing in the Civil War) so the more Texas history you know, the better you'll do here. Oh, and the stereotype that Texas is filled with hicks is absolutely not true. If you could see this city called The Woodlands (it's near my town), you wouldn't believe that some people think we're all rednecks. The Woodlands is sort of a rich little city, it's got a mall known all around Montgomery County, big beautiful houses and it's a good place to grow up. We know that most out-of-staters think we're all hicks, but we embrace it. We've turned their hick thought into a rancher life. Ranches are big in Texas. (we have one that's bigger than Rhode Island) Our favorite livestock? Cows, more specifically, longhorns. And one more thing, nothing makes a Texan happier than a barbeque wtih chili. And even though you're not here yet, welcome to Texas, home of ZZ Top, Beyonce and Dr Pepper!

okay:
ya'll: Wikkipedia says a Texan interpretation for greeting more than one person at a time. Canadians and Yankees say "youse guys" when in fact in Texas they do have sex but are not sexist so both geners are included in this greeting.
fixin' to: Wikkipedia sas a Texan interpretation for I am about to do that very thing that you mention, however if you meet a native of Texas then you will find that they look puzzled and then the light bulb goes off and they think, "how the hell am i going to admit i forgot all about it" and suddenly the 120 wats reach the thinking center and they say, "fixin' to"
When you get here I will give you a crash course. What part will you be moving to? I can hook you up with an EXCELLENT Reator but please do not expect great health care from anywhere but this nurse.
You also must be driving a TRUCK that has an emblem on the back that reads, "Silly boyz trucks are for girlz" and it is an added bonus if your bumper and step rails are chrome. Your Radio station must be tuned into 99.5 (this station will get you country music 24/6.5 the other .5 are split between the top fourty countdown and hymns)

I <3 Texas
When I visit the country I develop and accent pretty quickly.
I live in the city thought, and no one has an accent.
One main difference is "ya'll"
Kinda like New Yorkers say "You'se guys"
