I was in a college class when I had a huge debate with someone about "reverse racism" where the "White man" is not geting the job because of affirmative action...
What is reverse racism... does it mean that racism is going the "right way" when it is against people of color?

Is there a such thing as reverse racism... isn't it just racism altogether?

ps... this question is slightly rhetorical!

This is a good question. I have always felt that racism is racism.. treating some one negatively because they are a different race. Some people do believe that the "white man" is getting it because of affirmative action. In some cases it is used inappropriately, where someone gets the job because they satisfy a set requirement. I really wish we could move beyond the issue of racism. When you do something bad against another person, it is a bad. Plain and simple. If you are the right fit for the job, you are the right fit.

Reverse racism may or may not actually exist, it depends on your viewpoint. This concept is completely subjective, so it is hard for me to offer a neutral or fair answer. The fact of the matter is that ultimately people should be selected by their merits, but also you have to examine the fact that statistically minorities are more likely to be disadvantaged, and may not always get a fair shake. So I think the concept of affirmative-action is supposed to be considered a happy-medium. This is a really good question... I personally feel that everyone should do their best to overcome their obstacles to attain success so that could perhaps be considered contra-affirmative action, but on the other hand, if I were offered a job, and I knew that I was offered it due to my color, would I be upset? Perhaps, but I feel it's not how you get there, it's what you do when you get there. Seeing as though, it may bother me, I could see how a non minority could feel upset, but the question is, how do you determine that you have been the 'victim' of reverse racism, you can't really make that determination, so I don't know...

Reverse racism is a dumb term which means racism against the majority. I believe it's just racism, there should be no other term.

Racism has it's roots in the populous, or majority, attacking minorities. What it means is the tables are turned, and the minorities attack the majority. Neither of these are appropriate. MLK said it best, judge by the content of character, not color of skin.

Reverse racism is when you treat someone better than you would if they weren't a certain color, or religion. It's still racism though...

I have heard that term time and time again. I think it came into exsistence, because they seen their racsim coming right back at them. The RACISM, that was not supposedly non- existant, exsisted!

It means that even though Whites have done their best to reach out to Blacks and spent huge money on social programs and job training, and seen to it that many of them find good jobs, but that in return Blacks have turned around and done nothing at all whatsoever for us, indeed probably hate us more for it.

It just means the shoe is on the other foot. Deal with it. Every other race had to.
