I'm probably beyond wrong. This just reminded me of this song, "Perfect Situation" by Weezer. It's a pretty good one.
"All I have to do is swing and I'm a hero, but I'm a zero."

I guess it goes both ways... this answer might be long -- sorry. In one way, yes, because they only like it because they've heard it sooo much that it's in their heads... there aren't a lot of songs on that game. I can't really explain this. In another way, no. I can understand this a bit better, cause I know how it is. Well, you see, sometimes, people like me were never influenced to Rock/Metal by their peers, like family and friends. When they play a video game, and come across a song that they like the beat/lyrics/riffs to they are bound to look up the band when they are bored and on the internet. They are bound to see what else the band has to offer. See, you might be someone who grew up with these bands, it's always been nature to you. But to some people, there is not very many ways to find good music. Like, when I heard a little bit of these genres, I had to have more, but it was very difficult to me, you can't look up bands/artists if you don't know any bands/artists to look up. If Guitar Hero is one of the only ways they can discover music, then that's great if they do. Answer this question: IF (this is a what if question so use your imagination) you didn't know the music you knew now, would you rather NEVER learn about this music, or learn about it through a video game? Sometimes, there's no other way. Music is a great thing. Who cares where it comes from? All that matters is the brotherhood and the passion that comes with it. Everyone starts somewhere...

The only thing I can think of that is close is Working Class hero originally by John Lennon, but has recently been released by Green Day (and therefor IS on the radio alot)
It's not exactly the lyrics, but the first time I heard it that's what it sounded like to me.. so it's possible..
