My brother, who is 2 years older, and I would get one of Mom's old purses and tape a dollar bill hanging outside. We would then tie a fishing line to it and throw it in the street. Then hide behind a tree & wait for the cars to pass by. Mose cars would stop when they would see a purse in the street. They would open the door to scoop up the purse & my brother would pull the string causing them to miss it. It was such fun. The people would often drive off fast knowing that they had been had. Every now and then, they would be quick enough to get hold of the purse but when they found out it was empty, would throw it out in the ditch. We would retrive it and go again. We spent many summer nights playing this game. It was great and brings back fond memories. By the way this was in the early 70's.

My friend and I use to sleep outside. When we were younger we slept in this old tent she had. It was old, torn, and smelly, but we loved it. We would eat romaine noodles un-cooked with the seasoning sprinkled on top. I know it sounds gross now, but back then it was so good to us. When we got a little older we slept outside under the stars in my backyard. We would lay out blankets in a big area on the ground. We use to play truth or dare and I will admit, we one time "snuck out", but we actually DID get caught by the police. We didn't get in any trouble though, well except from our parents. LOL, thanks for that. I'm only 21 but looking back at them memories are so great and peaceful:)

from the age of 10 we used to hunt for night crawlers in the summer at the cottage... we would build a campfire, roast marshmallows, tell ghost stories, that was until I was about 14 and discovered boys and the arcade was the best hangout..... I became a master at Ms. PAC-MAN and loved to go to the skating rink..... times were different then though, there were places you could go and be trusted there by yourself and come home.

We did that, too...my cousins, brothers and I would play hide 'n' seek....mother may I...and red light green light...then, we'd chase lightnin' bugs and put them in jars...and we'd pick honeysuckle and eat it...find black berries and get my aunt to put sugar on them for us....we'd wait until the last rays of the sun would fade and get my dad to build a fire...then, everyone got sticks and put wieners on them to make hot dogs. We'd roast marshmallows and get ice cold sweet tea to drink or grape Kool Aid. We'd be so tired when it got to be ten at night..that my mom would drag us in and wash us up...and pile us all in bed in what we called "pallets" on the floor. We'd sleep for 7 or 8 hours and head back out to do it all again the next day. God Bless Summer...and the memories of childhood in the 60's. Hugs....

I lived on a cul-de-sac, all us kids played baseball in the street. It was hilarious when the moms joined in, they could almost hit the ball! (the way they stood there with the bat was comical) If we weren't doing that, we were sitting in the middle of the street telling "ghost" stories. I really miss those days! :-(
By the way, I'm one of eight...
