"percent" represents a fraction whose denominator is understood to be 100. If the percent number is less than 100, and the percent multiplies an item, the result is the multiplication of the item by the percent number and division by 100. So in 15 percent of 150, you can multiply 15 times 150 and then divide by 100 to get the answer. (22.5).

Here is two of the most helpful hints I have ever learned in math:

1) Whenever you see or use the word "OF" in a problem it ALWAYS means MULTIPLY.

2) Whenever you see or use the word "PER" in a problem it ALWAYS means DIVIDE.

In your problem 15 percent means 15 is divided by 100. Then, 15% of 150 means you multiply 15% by 150.

Hope this helps.

To get the percentage, multiply the base and the rate.
Here are the given:
percentage:?
rate:15%
base:150
To multiply a percent and a number, you must move the percent's decimal point 2 places to the left so...
15% becomes 0.15...
Now, let's multiply
150*0.15=22.5
So 22.5 is 15% of 150...
Hope you get it... Good luck...

"Percent" comes from the Latin phrase "per centum", which means "per hundred". So 15% means 15 out of 100.

But the fraction of 15 out of 100 is 15/100 = 0.15

(Likewise the fraction of 25 out of 100 is 25/100 = 0.25.)

Then, to find 15% of another number, you need to find the fraction of that number. So you multiply it:

15% of 150 = 0.15 x 150 (which is 22.5)

25% of 150 = 0.25 x 150 = 37.5

15% of 400 = 0.15 x 400 = 60

and so on...

The easiest way to do this is to take the percent, in this case, 15%, and turn it into a decimal.

15% = 15/100 = .15

Remember that all percentages (%) are basically fractions over 100. Thus say, sales tax in my state, 8.25%, could become a decimal the same way:

8.25% = 8.25/100 = .0825

Then just multiply it out:

.15 * 150 = (You said don't give you the answer so I won't.)

I hope that's what you needed.

To find a percent, you need to multiply by the decimal form of the percentage. One hundred percent (100%) would be written as 1.00, 15% as .15, or 7% as .07.

simplest way is using your example.10 % of 150 is 15
5% is half that 7.5
so 15 plus 7.5 is 22.5 so 15% of 150 is 22.5
It is easier to break a percentage question down to its simplest usable factor of 10%

Here are the steps.

1) Convert the percent into a decimal by dividing it by 100
2) Multiply that decimal by the number

Now lets apply them

1) 15% / 100 = 0.15
2) 0.15 * 150 = 22.5

Your answer is 22.5
