We have a Kenmore refridgerator/freezer with a freezer on top and the refridgerator on bottom. It seems that for some reason, there is water leakage from the freezer that is going all the way to the bottom of the fridge.

It seems cold enough, and this melting only happens occassionally. Both freezer and refridgerator are often very packed with stuff, and sometimes we open it a lot, but what is the problem?

What do you guys think?

If you guys need more details, let me know.

This happens to me too. The automatic defroster gets frozen over with ice and plugs up the drain hole. I know it is a pain in the neck, but you will have to remove everything, turn the fridge off and let it defrost itself. When you put everything back, DO NOT block those holes that run across the top of the freezer with food items. The air needs to circulate. Ask a friend or neighbor to keep important frozen foods in their freezer for a few hours. Like ice cream. Most items will not defrost in just a few hours. To hurry it up you can unscrew the bottom of the freezer and use a hair dryer to help speed it up. To de-ice the drain hole.

The defrost drain is blocked. When the unit goes into a defrost cycle, the water normally drains into the pan on the bottom of the unit.
If the drain has a blockage, the water will go somewhere, in your case, into the refrigerator section.
Sometimes an easy fix for this, is to turn the frig off for a day or two, let things melt out and the drain opens up on it's own.

There is a grate type thing in the freezer, make sure you don't have it covered with food, if you do it will mess up the works. If it is frost free that is what is causing the mess.
