Most of you are wrong.
The ROOSTER had to come first or the egg inside of the hen would have never bean fertilized.

i'd have to say the "egg." or more appropriately the CELL; an egg is just a large cell. chickens, no matter what stage of development, are made up of many cells...therefore, without the original cell there would be no chickens. and having since "created" the chicken, the chicken i just the cell's clever way of making more cells.
now, the mystery of the cell...well, once upon a time there was a magical place, the "Primordial Goo" where elements combined to form self-replicating molecules who later associated themselves with lipids and all that other great stuff that goes into making a "cell." eventually the cells "figured" out that if they parasitize each other the job of making more cells is easier. and so begins the story of "life and evolution..."
oh, the whimsy...mmmm fried chicken.

The egg came first. It contained a slightly mutated form of bird we now call "chicken." The mutation was one that made the bird better fitted to its environment, that affected the bird's ability to survive or reproduce, and that could be passed on to its offspring. Gradually, the number of birds with this mutation increased in the population, until finally all of them were chickens. Aren't you glad?

I would say the chicken. If the egg came first, something would have had to sit on it for 21 days in order for it to hatch...so how would the egg have hatched?
