Amateur Radio is a terrific hobby that equips you to do missions work as well as many other activities that will benefit not only yourself but others around you.
http://www.arrl.org is a good place to get information on it.
The hobby is less expensive than most activities for men, it is educational, you can build things, learn how things work, talk to people all around the world, become entrenched in the fraternal friendship shared among Ham radio operators world wide, and serve your community and the world with emergency and disaster relief commnuications.
If your going to do something, why not do something that is as good for the world as it is for you?

I own a shop, and build engines to race with. Dude.... your budget is going to kill you man! There is also a fine line between what you can drive on the street, and that kind of power. I drive a 550 hp. vehicle on the week-ends, and I'm here to tell you, I got some money in that thing. I like your charger idea over the bottle thing, but have you looked at what they cost? A big block with a carburetor looks more and more what you may afford. If you pay 3 grand for the charger, you can't get much power for 7 grand unless you go with a stroker or something like that. I want you to go to this site
www.chevyhighperformance.com and check out all the budget engine builds they have done, and you might just come under the 10 grand, and make close to that much power. Maybe your old lady will give you a raise lol. Horsepower is an expensive hobby, and I can testify to that. Making all that power might be the interest, but getting it to the ground is nowhere in that 10 grand budget is it?
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

your price is pushing it with the whipple charger. a blower motor has to have lower compression.. Now if you took a stock engine and prepped it for a blower you could get under the money but not 600 or 700 hp. you could get close if you researched it correctly. you have to build the whole top end for flow. if you build the bottom end for a blower motor, use good parts your talking 2200 to 3000, including the block, roughly, maybe cheaper if you find the right machine shop. now the heads, cam, valve train and blower is where the money is at.....nah, build a hot rod or your deffinition of it......then enjoy
golfing doesnt look cool :)
should of mentioned, 6 mustangs and a 67 p.u. in the yard, also a 360 cid Jeep Grand Cherokee :)

Well, since a whipple is forced induction, or a blower basically, you must make sure you have a low compression motor. Otherwise bang! Something tells me you already know that though. My personal recommendation is a 60's Camaro or coupe, or a mid/late 80's Monte Carlo SS.
If you're planning on doing that from scratch then I hope you can do it for $10G, it'll be iffy.
Good luck.

Yes Homeslice ,you can do it for that and have it "Look Pretty too"and run on pump gas. With today's technology ( electronic fuel inj computer controlled spark advance etc, etc), "NO PROBLEMO"!!! Just remember what REALLY GETS YA GOIN' IS TORQUE!!!!!! The supercharger is great for this as it is getting extra compression right off the start. If I were you I would shoot for the most torque(600-700 ft lbs) with about 500 hp. Good Luck!!!!!

Man it must suck to live only for gas mileage. On to other things.Getting that kind of horsepower is expensive. The blower alone is around $3000 .And that's just the beginning. It might be possible if you can do a lot of the work yourself, other wise I don't see it. It might be easier to just check out Chevy's 572 Big Blocks. I see Mr top contributor got shot down.

i think a 400 HP motor is more streetalbe and relistic with out repairing so many parts all the time. Go buy a 80's firebird or camaro and stick a 400 in it

Mid to late 80s mustang, 60 over 460 with a stroker crank, have the heads shaved and ported, I wouldn't recommend a blower of any kind if your going to drive it on the street.

is do able at 10,000 for moter alone. if you build a 400 -500 hp. moter it will be much more effective on streetable drivetrain suspension and tires.

Why put money into something that will burn gasoline like a storm. Check out www.lubedev.com/smartgas for ways to improve the MPG's on your daily driver. It takes lots of work and it's great to "brag" about how much gas you save.
