You are so very very correct.... it is ironic.
I think what has changed is not the exposure to violence as much as Americans acceptance of it as conflict resolution....

Haha, I agree. Children back then were exposed to so much violence and have first hand experience with it. It was pretty much something seen on a normal basis such as public hangings. There have been much darker times than the present which much more violence than that of todays.
Violence back then was accepted but today it is not which is why people argue that there is too much. However, although they claim to not accept it, through the actions of society's and the media, violence is accepted. I mean, think of all the movies with cops beating the crap out of the villians and so on.

The problem with today's violence is that video games and such show violence in a fantasy. It's all a game. The more people you kill the more points you get. If you rape a prostitute even better. Once that kill is over, you move on to the next one.
Any parent who has these games in there home should have their heads examined. Either that or don't piss and moan about your kids having attitude problems and not wanting to listen to you. Why should they? When you buy those kinds of games for them you are giving them the green light for character issues.

not really, You see over the thousands of years of human 'civilization' people have observed that exposing children to that sort of thing makes for some very screwed up adults.( Hey, they used to think that draining you of some of your blood would cure just about anything, that the world was flat , and that mentally ill people should just be driven out of the village by stoning, or killed outright. )

Yes I agree....people today are just trying to point the blame elsewhere...people do not seem to want to take responsibilities for actually teaching their kids right from wrong, not to mention a hundred years ago children were often trained to fight and kill at a very young age...parents just need to learn to discipline their kids better...

Yes and very sad that our culture has grown to accept violence. We have become immune to it and our children are going to pay for it.
