My car starts to gradually overheat everytime I drive it so I have been turning the heater on full blast and it drops the tempreature back to normal. Any help or advice would be great also any possible solutions. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money because I only drive my car to work and one way to my job is about 5 miles. I honestly drive about 10-15 miles a day on the car. I paid 500 dollars for it and I have had it for 3 months. Thanks.

It sounds like your radiator is plugged or passable a thermostat that is stuck closed. but from what you are describing I would go with the radiator. I have seen many plugged radiators with the symptions that you are describing. You might try to have it flushed but your best tip I can give is to replace it

Yes the heater core is design to cool the car for a short period of time so you can get off the road or what not. But I would start looking at when it overheats....does it do it during normal driving. check the thermostat, does it do it when you turn the ac on......check the fan(s), does it do it no matter what....check both

Turning on your heater is recommended when you overheat as it uses the excess engine heat. It sounds like you have either a radiator coil section that is damaged or clogged, or your thermostat is taking a dump, or its your water pump. Most likely its the thermostat and turning on the heater forces it to open from the pressure.

Check the radiator fins at the bottom of the radiator for green corrosion. When it leaks plan on replacing the radiator, coolant hoses and thermostat.
