How many galaxies do we know about?

I've heard that we know a few billion?

There are approximately 250 billion known galaxies. The closest one to us is Andromeda and is 4 light years away.

I don't know that we have identified a few billion or just have estimated that number. I wouldn't be surprised if that were so.
