I don't think "winning" friends is the right way to look at it. Generally, people refer to it as making because both people need to like each other- its not a one way thing. First of all, start conversations with the people who are around you all ready, like that you don't have to walk up to and start talking to. This is the easiest. Then, you'll see how easy it is to make conversation with just regular people you don't feel intimidated by and then you can go and seek out people you don't know to make friends. Conversation is the most important part. Also, don't limit yourself by thinking "This person is not my type". Reach out to all people. You'll be surprised at how most people really are alike. Number one rule: Have confidence. If you act like the people you're trying to be friends with are better than you it won't work. However, pick up on a losing battle. If they aren't your type or you aren't making progress move on. There's like 7 billion people in the world right? You don't need to waste time on people you wouldn't want to be friends with or that don;t like you. Good luck!!!

cold.
Hard.
CAAAAASSSSSHHHH!!!
Or, alternatively, look for those things that indicate affinity among your acquaintances. You'll rarely retain for very long, a friend who has a radically different outlook on life; so wherever you find them, the true friends are the ones who are similar enough to you to be tolerable and still able to share new things with on a day-to-day basis.
Read Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Infuence People" -- an old book that still applies today, because people haven't changed THAT much, we just have more toys. lol...
Good Luck... :)

Friends are not a prize in a lottery, they are real personalities, feelings, desires, wants and have true and sincere dreams. You can't win a true friend, and a true friend is like a blessing and a gift, it's presented and then hopefully treasured.

I have a friend in everyone I meet and try to even give the "sucky" people something to smile about because to win a heart you have to give a heart and be able to allow it to break a little, too.

Buy them. They're cheap. Red light districts are the place to go, they're just lying around in the streets. You can pick up a couple of friends for a cask of cheap port.

Always have a conversation ready. Nobody likes to just stare at someone with akward silence filling the air.

trust when i say this: you don't wanna be friends with just anybody. you should (and i truly believe this) be able to count all your CLOSE, GOOD friends on one hand. everyone else (ie. friends, acquaintances, people you know, etc...) you should keep at arms length.
now maybe I'm just a grumpy old man, but i find this to be true.

Learn the "Law of Attraction", how you behave with others is what you get in return. Think about it. Love yourself and show it, you'll see what happens. Good Luck!

Well I don't think its likt Lotto.
A friend is an investment.
A best friend is an extention of your own heart and soul.
Both are not "won", they are earned!
