Florida is a big state!!! Depending where you live and/or your zip code can make a world of difference in Hurricane Insce and Property Taxes. There is relief on the way! Florida is still a fantastic place to live. Don't put the blame on the State only, just build a new house and the cost of materials & manpower have also doubled if not tripled in the last year under the new revised building hurricane code. Better construction means more money but in the long run will save you money on energy and insurance.

Anywhere near the ocean is going to cost you. It's expensive here in virginia beach too. I bet Florida is harder on the insurance rates though, considering the hurricane frequency.

Well, its about million-two-hundred-thousand dollars for a two bedroom house across the street from me in San Francisco in an average neighborhood. $600,000 for 700 sq/ft condo. I think the mortgage is between 3,000-4,000 a month. I will need two wives (one a doctor, and one a lawyer) to make the payments. :) Does that make you feel better?
