First and foremost, Pakistan has nukes. That in itself is a whole nasty scenario. Secondly, bin Laden wouldn't have to hide anymore. He could openly walk the streets. If Musharraf is overthrown, it will be because he supported (however half-heartedly) the US in its attempts to catch Osama bin Laden and an al-Qaeda friendly government will take control.
There is a possibility, I suppose, that India could seize the opportunity and invade during the confusion and chaos of an overthrow. At the very least, they could take possession of the Kashimir province they keep fighting over. I can imagine the collective apoplexy in the UN if India did that...lol....anyway.....the range of possible scenarios after a Musharraf overthrow are mind boggling. We could see anything from a new Taliban-like state to a new shining pillar of democracy in the region (not likely). Most likely it would mean more warfare and death for thousands in the region.

It could be very serious and dangerous. Pakistan has nukes and Islamist extremists.
This is a good example of what an 'ally' is for all those that always question US allies. They are not friends, they're political allies. Musharraf may not be the US's good buddy, or Saudi Arabia, but having dialog and some cooperation is better than the alternative.

The possible scenarios are mind numbingly scary. One ingredient many people fail to look at is that probably very soon, Netanyahu of Israel will be elected Prime Minister. Netanyahu is a hawk and not inclined to take lip or threats from any country in the Middle East. I don't think he would look kindly on whoever overthrows Musharraf if they even hinted at the use of nukes or showed a proclivity to weakness or alliances with nations hostile to Israel. And if Israel gets more involved in the chaos over there, look out folks, it ain't gonna be pretty anywhere in the world. The US will not abandon Israel, no matter what they do, so that means we will be smack in the middle of the maelstrom along side them. We better get some serious diplomacy going and fast. We have to figure out a way out of this mess, and soon.

Another islamic state like tha taliban which supports terrorists. Not to mention a radical islamic a state that is a member of the Nuclear Club. Measning that we will most likely be off to war again. But hay India will probably support us and we have afghanistan to attack from.
Just hope it doesn't happen. But Musharraf will probably be overthrown.

Civil war leading to either another military dictator or an Islamic dictatorship like the Taliban had. Possibly the dissolution of Pakistan (they'd be better off as part of India anyway).

If that happens, and if we are very lucky, the replacement regime will be reasonably sane--and will be able to retain control of Pakistans nuclear weapons.
If control of those nuclear weapons were to be lost, the alternative is World War 3.

good lord that would be bad. i would hate to think of the nasty mess that would cause...far worse than the situation in iraq. i could certainly see many of the foreign terrorists going from iraq and afghanistan to pakistan to try and take over in a taliban-style gov't. the possibility of having nukes would be too tempting.
