When chlorophyll is exposed to light it breaks down and plant continue to regenerate this chlorophyll. Chlorophyll gives plants the engery required to break down Carbon dioxide and water and store it as a starch.

CO2 + H20 with light and chlorophyll ----> 02 + C(H20)

Chlorophyll provides the green pigment
Carotene provides a yellowish pigment in the cell chloroplast
anthocyanins make apples red, because it is stored in the cell's sap and combines with the protein thus causing the redness.

Does that help at all?

Chevaughn S explained why we see the color of red.

But what makes the apple have that property of reflecting/absorbing wavelengths of light is the pigments in the apple. I am not 100% sure, but I believe the red pigment may be Anthocyanin...(?)

An apple gets it's colour from the sun.When white light(when all the colours of the spectrum are mixed together we get white light.)shines on the apple, six colours of the spectrum stays on the apple while the other colour reflect and shines in our eyes.Please send me an email of what you think about my answer.My email address is chevaughngenius@yahoo.com
