I guess we will have to wait and see.

The latest astronomy magazine I received says 1 million years. Not because the earth gets closer to the sun (if anything, we will move away a tiny bit), but because the sun will get a bit hotter (it is getting old and there is a bit more helium accumulating in the centre, so the temperature has to go up so that hydrogen-fusion can continue to produce enough energy to keep it from falling into itself).

However, a decade ago, the same reasoning led us to think that the Earth could be too hot for humans in half a million years. So 1 million or 1.4 is actually good news.

No I don't believe that is true. The reason for that kind of speculation is because scientists think that the suns gravity is pulling earth and all the planets closer to it, but, there is this new theory called dark energy, and the whole premise of dark energy, is that it is working against the force of gravity, so instead of having gravity pull everything closer, everything is spreading farther and farther. Again, this is a theory, and it is your decision to believe in its truth. But do not forget, the sun is slowly, slowly burning out, but i think that it will be longer than 1.4 million years for earth's demise.

All things come to an end. It doesn't do any good to think about it unless you can do something about it.

No, there is no reason to expect Earth to get significantly closer to the sun in the foreseeable future. Of course, we can't foresee the unforeseeable, can we. Maybe the Galactic Empire is headed this way with a brand new death star; we'd better stop living for today and devote all our resources to prepare a defense. Then, of course, we'll have to find an enemy to use the defense against, and we'll end up destroying ourselves. That's what happens when you worry about the unforeseeable.

Not exactly. For now, the earth is pretty safe, since the sun is middle aged and not going anywhere, but in a few billion years, it's going to start swelling as it runs out of hydrogen to burn and swallow up the inner planets (Mercury-Mars). It'll then shrink back and turn into a white dwarf

Yes,its true. The sun is now halfway through its lifespan. But you are wrong in saying that it is the end of the world. Its merely the end of the earth.

Probably in time human civilisation will develop so much that we will make some alternate arrangements and go away to live somewhere else in the universe.

Who knows? Only time can tell.

The part about the sun burning the earth is probably true but it won't happen for billions of years.

considering humans do not blow eachother up first, the would turn into a Red-Giant, which would be large but very cool, which would end life as we know it because it will have "swallowed" mercury and Venus, and would probably not support life, this will happen in BILLIONS of years, earth will not get to close to the sun, the SUN will get to close to the Earth

Yes, the end is near. All of the nasty unwashed Arabs in the world are planning to lift their robes in unison on August 14th and expose their unwashed underarms. The world will end shortly thereafter.
