I want to try something really different, but kind of along the 'emo' style.

NO, NO, NO! PLEASE don't get it emo yet again!!! You've got pretty hair, and I'm sure a pretty eye, but the point is emo makes not just you but everyone look mind-numbingly generic! You're gorgeous, and so is your friend, but Ipersonally think it would look kind of awesome to get it a little shorter. Maybe some bangs, layers, and have it be a dark purple. It'd match the snow!!!

If I were your beauty advisor -- I would suggest that you go with a lighter color -- not such a jet black -- with a few very subtle highlights. I would also suggest a shoulder length or slightly shorter cut with some longer layers. It would look really cute if it looked a little more natural.
I would also suggest that you wear a little makeup -- with a little more lip definition. A woman with dark hair should play up her lips a little more -- and maybe go with a smokey eyeshadow. And most of all -- SMILE!

..ohh.so you wanna be an emo huh..hmm,cut it until your neck,you know the end of your neck,then your bangs until your eyes..one is completely covered and the other is covered bt only half of your eye..since your hair is keewwwl and straight,you can keep that emo style hair tidy,nice and just perfect for yah..^^.,hope you'll have a great haircut..

They both look the same to me. Id say you would look pretty cute with a shorter haircut. You have the hair for it.
