Mexico GDP is about 3% agricultural, 27% manufacturing, and 70% services. The leading commercial enterprises are food and beverages, tobacco, chemicals, iron and steel, petroleum, mining, textiles, clothing, motor vehicles, consumer durables, and tourism. I don't think it is the lack of jobs but the low pay, both because the gdp per capita is 1/4 that of the US and even more inequality in the income distribution than the US.

Mexico "legal economy"., builds gas guzzeling SUVs, to high definition TVs, fishery, food processing, communications, media. The problem with Mexico is lot of economy is corporatist and the lack of competition in the economy create the ripoff cell rates Carlos Slim can get away with. The govemrent of Mexico like America hundreds years ago with tons of monopolies and little competition, but the people that wealthy in Mexico are living pretty good, but other fifty percent population is living in poverty there. The upper class of Mexico about 20 million of them make similar incomes to the Untied States, but the bottom 80% are barely getting by on 3 to 10 dollars a day.
