it could also be a black diamond or sadfire. I would have to see to be able to tell; you exactly what it is.

A black gem with a beige center could be several things. Improperly dyed onyx (onyx does not naturally come in black), diopsite with an inclusion of another mineral either natural or man-made, jet (form of anthracite) with the above inclusion sources, a cameo carved out of shell, agate or other multicolored stone that can be carved. I would need to see it and test it to be sure. Also, about the diamonds,,,they may not be diamonds. There are many other stones, both natural and man-made, that are commonly substituted for diamonds even in 14k or 18k jewelry. To tell, they should be tested.

Black stones used in jewellery include onyx, agate (often dyed), jet (though not a stone) and of course glass.
Is the beige part of the ring a cameo? If so, that would probably make the stone an agate - where the cameo is carved into a light coloured layer in the agate and a dark coloured layer is left as the contrasting background.
Another possibility is a cabochon cut star sapphire from Australia. Australian sapphires can appear so dark as to be almost black and the needles in star sapphires that produce the 'star' create a lighter colour where the star is (but I wouldn't have said it was beige).
