I tried opening the case but it doesn't seem like the screws on the cd drive are accesible. is there something that i dont know? i can open the left side of the case but the rest of it is bolted in so i dont know how to get to the screws on the right. is it a dell thing to not allow you to upgrade your cd drive?

dell uses 'slides'. the slides are mounted to the side of the drive so all you have to do is remove the ribbon and power cable(and maybe aux audio gray wire) and pinch the slides together and the drive will slide out.

go to dell.com and look up your product.

go to www.dell.com and click on the ? and go to the option 2 find your dell model and look for open the case to remove the CD and I hope you have a CD drive that does not have a faceplate on it if you have a new dell ... you must remove the side and front panels to get access to the drive

at the back of an IDEchronic (connects to a 40/eighty conductor ribbon cable) there's a jumper block. If the two cd/dvd drives are the two set to the two grasp or slave they gained't be known via BIOS one must be grasp the different must be slave. The installation instructions that got here with thechronic ought to tell you the set the jumper, yet who reads 'em. stable success
