if these kids had other kids watching them while they were torturing that animal, they can be charged with abusing children as well as the animal.
there is a cruelty and lack of compassion in our society that i am completely befuddled by.
i read responses out here that illustrate, among other things, a complete absence of compassion...

Society has become lazy and inconsiderate because it can. Politicians don't help at all. People's consciences don't seem to be too strong either. There's little fear of "getting caught" when wrongdoing. Allowing so many immigrants from some nations we never even heard of 30 years ago to migrate here don't seem to have helped either. To say nothing about the "illegals". Just watch America's Most Wanted and see the frequent episodes on "Russian Gangs/Chinese Gangs, etc. Why are these people allowed to stay here? Whatever happened to "undesirable aliens" that got deported, as they should be? I blame our government for allowing too many people in this country. WE HAVE TOO MANY PEOPLE HERE! The more people - the more problems. Its common sense. And forget the nonsense about being a nation of immigrants. The immigrants that came here 50+ years ago, are not the same immigrants that are showing up today. Most of today's arrivals show up with their hands out and contribute nothing but their presence. By the way - I helped someone I didn't know just last week. I also do so whenever I can. Its the way I was raised, and my nature.

Poor parenting. The parents don't care what the kids are doing just as long as the kids are out of the house and away from the parents. Parents don't teach kids values, ethics, respect or responsibility anymore. Parents think that the schools should raise the kids, but it is the responsibility of the parent to do so. If you can make the kid you should raise the kid right.
Itsmyopinion: Schools are for providing knowledge, not teaching kids how to behave ethically, responsibly and respectfully. We had prayer in school when I started and kids didn't do things like this nearly as much as they do now. Wonder why?

It is very disturbing. Torturing animals is usually a sign of serious mental illness or lack of parental attention and discipline. I'm not sure which scares me more.
But, sadly, it's true that a lot of parents aren't giving their children the upbringing they should be. With a liberal society dictating how we may not discipline our children, it's becoming harder and harder to have a say-so in our own lives. Thus, more children are being raised without a conscience.
Here's another story from a few months ago that will also make you shake your head in shame.

Did you ever hear the things Jeffery Damer did to animals. Some kids are just messed up. That kid needs to get help now before he is the next serial killer.

Well it all started with the day care system now who in their right mind would allow someone who they don't really know allow their child to be raised by them? This is the downfall and for what-$$$ mommy needed it so bad she couldn't even raise her own child!
