why does it say cannot find modem when i try to install sbc yahoo internet?

i connected the ethernet to the laptop but it keeps on saying cannot find modem

Here is how it needs to be connected.

-Phone Line connected to DSL Modem
-Ethernet Cable from DSL Modem to Ethernet Port

Goto network connections in the control panel and right click on the LAN connection. Click on Properties
On the General Tab in the window find the TCP/IP and select it and click on the properties button. Make sure all the options are set to automatic on both tabs.

Then turn on the modem and after a min or two all the LED's on the front of the modem should be on. This will tell you that your DSL is online.

Install the Yahoo Software and it should work now...
