Sissy, do not run two free virus scan programs on your machine at any one time. Free virus scan and and other virus utilities can conflict with each other and cause problems with your system. Also, make sure your free virus scan program is updated regularly to ensure maximum protection.

That could contribute to making it run slower. You should uninstall the one you don't like and keep the other, also I would check which programs you have running in the background. You can do this by looking at your taskbar in most cases. If you eliminate programs from there and it still runs slowly, right click the taskbar and click on "Task Manager" (if you're on an Windows OS made before XP, press 'Ctrl+Alt+Del' once (twice will restart your computer) and the Task Manager should open). In this window you can view what programs are running and you can end them. Be sure not to end any programs you don't know. Like explorer.exe will show, but it may not look important, but ending it wouldn't be a good idea.
If you see something that looks harmful, like adware, spyware or something along those lines, end it and do a virus scan.

Okay, so you've done all this and your computer -still- runs slow? Try defragmenting your drive (C drive in most cases). What this does is it takes bits and pieces of lost data and reorganizes it so it can find it better when you open programs. It's like cleaning your desk so you can find your programs better. To run Defragmenter, you can find it in "Start > Accessories > System Tools" or search for "defrag" it should pull up Disk Defragmenter.

Hopefully this speeds things up for you! :-)

Anti-Virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

If you choose to install more than one Anti-Virus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that run in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an On-Access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as:
Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.

ONLY one antivirus per computer. Just like toolbars, More is NOT better. Remember, if you have norton of mcafee, you need to uninstall, thn go to their website and do another uninstall using their tool. Double check only the right items in start up. Uninastall red flag software like AOell, limewire, banzai buddy, webshots, hot bar, free screensavers, etc.
