I'm a 17 year newbie to both ballet, jazz, and hip hop - and I love it. I did ballet when I was really little, but quit after about a year or so to pursue my other love - horseback riding. I'm planning a rigourous schedule this summer and fall, and I'm considering doing something with dance in college. I don't think I'd like to major in it (though the idea of owning a studio seems nice - I've always loved the arts, even when I wasn't dancing and have dreamed of doing something in that realm or in competitive horse shows), but possibly a minor or doing a college team?
My question to you is - is this just a silly dream I should give up on? Are college programs just too tough for someone like me?

There are many non-competitive college dance programs that don't require an audition to be admitted. Typically, they're the ones that offer a BA rather than a BFA in dance. However, some BFA programs might also offer lower level classes to non-majors. You just have to look around.

Your dream seems very practical and not silly at all. You'd be a bit old if you were trying to aim for a performing career in dance, but studying dance in order to become a studio owner is do-able at your age.

there are various stable college dance classes in those states; although, you're actually not very particular on what form of degree you decide on. Theres a BFA, that's a greater conservatory like degree and a BA which specializes interior the liberal arts which will prepare you to show and or flow to graduate college. additionally, it relies upon once you're searching for a university thats respectable and would not value a kit or an extremely high priced college with call fee (Juilliard). remember nevertheless, you will get alot out of a university it truly is affordable in case you artwork complicated. right this is a itemizing of a few faculties that i'm conscious of: college of Florida (gainseville) Florida State college (tallahassee) college of needed Florida (orlando) New international college of the arts (Miami) Florida college of the arts (Palatka) Florida international college (Miami) college of South Florida (tampa) Valdosta State college (Valdosta, GA) SUNY purchase (purchase, long island) NYU Marymount long island (long island) New college

I took my first ballet class in college and somehow ended up being a dance minor and on several performance groups. Like you, I worked my butt off to get to where I am.

My point is that it really depends on your school's program. My school allows beginners to be dance minors as long as they get to an intermediate level. I think you can do it. Work hard and keep your mind on the goal.

Good Luck

Stephens College, in Missouri, is well-known for their dance program. It's not a silly dream. Stephens probably has an online catalogue. Look on their website below:
