I moved across the country into a condo by myself. I have been here 2 months and still have not made any friends. I am going to school in the fall, and working part time. I have no one to hang out with, all I have is my boyfriend who i see once a week because he lives 2 hours away. I used to be very social and outgoing, a party girl. People see me as someone who "lives the good life", but they have no idea how sad I really am. My old friends barely call me anymore, they all live 3000 miles away. Now I have isolated myself from people for that past 2 months and I'm getting very depressed. I don't know what to do and I feel like i dont know what to say to people anymore. I try to go out and go shopping and be around people, but i still feel so alone. Do people not like me? Please help

You cannot squander your inner soul because your are scared to share it with the world. Even though you have moved to a brand new place, you need to go and meet people. Enroll in classes you might not have taken before such as dancing, yoga, martial arts, cooking, even knitting. Do something out of your comfort zone that helps you reconnect with other people. Once you start sharing who you really are with others, you will once again begin to find yourself. Don't just lock yourself up in your condo because of school and work...enjoy life...in the present. And share yourself with other people. Good luck, and smile...besides change is what makes the human race special from any other species...we can go through change and endure it.

I always have this fear that if I ever change but by job or location or education, the friends I've made there will forget me when I'm gone or will start to forget me. I've come to realize that A) They were friends, but friends that were there just for that said time or B) They weren't much of friends C) They weren't willing to fight for the friendship to stay alive, because they've moved on ; people change
If they are your true friends, they will never forget you, trust me. It seems to me like maybe you guys were tight at one point but have lost that spark, remember friendship is a two way st. I should know, a friend of mine has now become more of an acquaintance, but that is just how it will be-we've set our priorities and friends straight and we are just not in the same page. Join a club or something to get you goinand meeting people, the good thing about you starting school in the fallis that you'll meet new people and will have a new life-good luck.

Isn't this usually the case when we move from a place were our social life is well established and our group tightly integrated. It takes a long time to reconstruct that social situation and you may never again have a group life that is so congenial to you.

I live in Costa Rica. And I live in a really shabby apartment up an alley where everyone belongs to one family and things are always sort of run down and lower mid class. I have plenty of money and could like anywhere in the country, but these people are my people, and if I move, even to another barrio, I'd be like all over again like you, and I coudn't take my dog for a walk and have everyone say "buenos dias, como le vas, puru vida" to me.

Most of us have experienced what you have found, and so we can appreciate. It ain't fun, and I'm as scared of it as you are. So I stay with what I have and look to the bright side.

hi dear, sure people like you...it's a normal feeling how you feel now when you try to change your life or where you live
just take your time and don't think that way, you are ina new turn in your life so try to enjoy it, when the school starts you will meet new friends there of course...also you can try myspace.com and search people in your area where you live, you may find some nice new friends
i know and feel what you are going though because i'm in the same situation as you are...i don't have any friends to hang around with, i go out alone....so what i did was going on myspace and here on yahoo answer and i found some nice friends....i'm still in the phase of trying to reshape my life but it's working for me that way at least now i have friends all over the world.....if you like you can contact me and we can talk
good luck dear, i really hope you find nice friends

I'm not sure what you would consider "helpful", but I can relate having moved from the east coast (U.S.) to the west coast; it took some time adjusting to different lifestyles and methods of doing things but I eventually made the adjustment. Then, I experienced the same culture shock in reverse when I returned to the east coast some years later. The main thing is to be patient with yourself, but venture out as much as you can to be among other people. I'm sure those folks will like you just fine. Good luck to you.

don't see the people's uncertainty toward you as threats. people are different in their own way and i know the people you're mentioning are far from the friends you're at home with. what you need to do is be in touch with what they can relate with and open yourself more to them. and being thankful worked for me too. you do have your boyfriend right?

It takes time sweetie..... don't take it personaly. Sooner or later you will gain a new circle of friends but you have to put yourself out there too... join clubs, go to church...just don't sit at home...do something.
