On the guitar how do I play 2 notes (the open g note on the third string and the a note on the third string..?

you can't, you must play your G note on the 4th string at the 5th frett. Then you can stretch to the 3rd string 2nd frett for the A note.

Open g you just pluck. A must be fretted. You cannot play both on the third string at the same time. You will have to play one note on another string.
