Well, to start with, your question is confusing because IT is a generic term representing a lot of sub-areas - networking being one of them. I'll assume you actually want a career in networking...

1. System Engineer, Network engineer, SA [system admin]..
2. You should concentrate on windows NT / Linux / Unix servers installation and administration.
3. Job profile may include installation of servers, monitoring servers and network traffic, setting up and administerng FTP accounts and so on...
4. Suggestion - first do MCSE, don't think about CCNA at this point. Once you do MCSE and have some exp then do CCNA.

You are on the path to IT.

Get your MCSE and CCNE.

Hit DICE.com or careerbuilder.com and do a search for MCSE, see what kinds of jobs are available. See if any interest you.

Talk with recruiters at technical (temp) staffing agencies. These people have their finger on the pulse of what is needed and conversely, what you can do with what you have.

Talk with hiring managers at companies you are interested in working for (the people that manage the technicians or server people. NOT THE HR PEOPLE!) Find out what temp companies they use. For a long time that was how to get into IT. Work as a temp on an open ended contract for a company you like, and if they like you, they'll make an offer.

Good luck!

now your traveling up the wrong street going the MCSE... rout.

if you want to go into the IT/Networking the way to go is Linux. I know you may never heard of linux, but Linux is used more than Microsoft, Linux is the back bone of the internet. and business servers... Linux is the operating system of tomorrow. Microsoft is yesterdays operating system

if you do your research into Linux you will find you will get all the software for networking, and building servers FREE, you will also get free Tutorials there is also lots of forums, used by the experts you can join, and have any questions and problems answered.

For your research type these into the web search bar >>

IBM+linux
intel+linux
Dell+linux
hp+linux
compaq+linux
novell+linux
linux distro
these companies have been using Linux in business systems for years,

if you would like more information on how and where to find this let me know.

I would finish your MCSE and get a job as a tech at a K-12 district. Many districts are looking for fresh help, and this sort of environment proves to be an excellent training ground. After a while, after you have experience and more training, you'll be able to parlay the school job into a corporate gig. Good luck!
