I know there are several types of the "pill" (I was onOrtho-Tri-Cyclen for three years and finally had to stop, it just wasn't working for me, I was also starting to get blood clots, so no more hormonal birth control for me! . . and no I don't smoke!)

What was your experience with it?
What would you recommend besides the pill?
Do you think there is too much "hype" about it?

Yeah, I know alot of questions . . . .but I'm just curious about other peoples viewpoints on this!

After my experiences with it, I'm sticking to barrier methods.

Please forgive any spelling mistakes :)

I took the Ortho for a while but it gave me crippling backaches and headaches, and my face broke out like you wouldn't believe. I know a lot of women who've taken it with no problems, even one who smoked and was fine. I just buy condoms now.

i've been on the pill for many years now, i'd say about 7. it took some time to find the right fit, but i love the pill that i'm on right now.
if you don't want to take the pill any more then i would suggest NuvaRing. its a ring that you insert into the vagina once a month, the amount of hormones in it is very low since its very close to the area. its convenient and safe, but don't forget you still need a condom!
i don't really think that there is 'hype' at all about the pill.
hope this helps!

I was on hormonal birth control (Yasmin) for years and never had any side effects or problems. I loved it. I have unbearably painful periods each month and felt SO much better while I was on the pill.
If you want to stay away from all hormonal birth control, I would stick with barrier methods.

Well, I believe that birth control pills can be a wonderful thing! But, as with any drug, there can be side effects that make the drug dangerous (like blood clots). If you can't take birth control pills, your best bet would be to use condoms and spermicide. Isn't being a woman great?

Birth control pills aren't very nice with your hormones so you got to be carefull, they unbalance you,the one that i've tried and was wonderfull but didn't work for me(i was very sad)is the "sterilet" sorry can't find the word in english,it is also sold by the name of "minerva"it is good for 5 years and you can take it out yourself when you want to.

I was on the pill for six years. I had a lot of break through bleeding until I chose ortho tri cyclin...but I didn't like the pill either. The hormones got to be too much for me.

i can not have any "hormonal" birth control due to the very strong breast cancer risk i have.
my dr suggested the IUD. i have had no problems w/ it and it is effective immediately and good for 5-10 yrs. (depending on which one you get) i had mild cramps and i have totally done away w/ my period. i will have very light spotting about once every 6 weeks or so and its so light i dont even need to wear anything but a panty liner.
i would recommend it to anyone

I use Ortho-Tri-Cyclene Lo just for the menstrual cycle benefits. I really like it. Otherwise, I do not need birth control methods as my husband had a vasectomy.

for me pills are good as long as you are not experiencing major side effects while on it. side effects are minimized by changin brands.
did you evder asked your gyne if s/he can recommend other brands? one brand may not work for you. trial and error always happens with the pill.
