Go into your search engine and type "free ads", you will find thousands and most if not all submit your ads to search engines.
They make their money from the paid ads, but if you submit to enough ad sites, you will already be covered.
You will receive many messages and if your site is of any interest, you will do just fine.
Remember, not just anything will sell at any price, these people are looking for specific things at low prices.
Try to be as competitive as you can afford to.

There are NO FREE LUNCHES - not even on the Internet. There are tens of millions of websites - you are competing with them. You have to market directly to your target audience (a very well and tightly defined target audience) through other mechanisms and then use your website to turn them into customers.

I highly recommend an excellent book on this subject (it is cheap and available at Amazon.com) by "Internet marketing pioneer" Seth Godin called: "Permission Marketing".
