There isn't an easy answer to this question, because different fish have different characteristics you need to look for. See the indiviual species links along the lower right hand side of this page: http://www.fishlore.com/ It will tell you what to look for for each species (at least those you know the names of).
You can try using the pictures of the fish in this link to identify the ones whose names you don't know: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/categ.cfm?pcatid=830
If you click on each pictures, you'll get pics of more fish from that group or family.

answer: a thank you to recognize if a Goldfish is female or male. Sexing youthful goldfish may be complicated, yet no longer impossible. it relies upon on no remember in case you purchase an person fish or very small youthful fish. in case you get youthful fish (tremendously cautioned) you will desire to attend until the fish reaches breeding age, that's some 365 days previous. Goldfish stored in exterior ponds attain breeding problem approximately as quickly as a 365 days (each and every spring - for the period of the hotter months). Goldfish stored in indoor aquariums would come into breeding problem at any time, depending on meals and how heat their water is stored. listed right here are some procedures you're able to tell in case you have a female or a male goldfish: the female will many times have a fuller abdomen. in case you view the fish from above the aquarium, the female would be fatter on one area of her physique than the different. (A male fish has a tendency to have a greater even shape whilst seen from above). in case you look heavily, the male goldfish will advance tiny tubicules (Little white dots that look like tiny zits) on the gill covers, and alongside the front fringe of the front fins. you will would desire to look carefully nevertheless - and please understand that some male fish would reveal those signs and warning signs, on the same time as others do no longer. wherein case, the chasing often supplies them away! men continually chase females around the aquarium most of the time. So the chaser is exceedingly much continually male, and the only being chased is often female.

Your best bet is to get the name of your fish, and get into engine searches to find out these details, because it is not the same for all fish to tell if they are male or female. For instance on some species the male is much more colorful and will have very showy fins, whereas the female maybe dull in color and even be larger than the male. Another example are a fish called the Sword tails....the males have the long tails, where the females don't, but she is a bit larger than the male. And on those that look exactly alike, like goldfish....has to do with a fin on the bottom of their bellies. It takes a little studying, but as I said, just find out the exact names of your fish and get on line and do some searching.
