I tend to avoid Maxtor drives as I've had quite a few of them fail on me. Several failed within the first 3 months of usage, and other have failed within 1 year. I've had a lot of luck with Western Digital and Seagate (who recently bought out Maxtor). I am also trying a Samsung SATA drive that hasn't had any problems in the last year but I've only dealt with that one so far (so not exactly recommending this one yet....hopefully it is as reliable as their cell phones).

The best kind are the kind that saves your wallet. =) All hard drives are basically the same, the more famous brands are Western Digital, Maxtor, Seagate.

Before you want to buy a new hard drive, what makes you think that your hard drive is giving out? there could be a lot other problems, unless you mean you're running out of space, then you should get an external hard drive.

but here's an 500 GB internal western hard drive for $110. make sure your motherboard support it though.
