To me, it does not look like a tornado forming. There are certain ''keys'' to look for.. such as sky color: if the sky is just a hint of green.. watch that cloud complex very carefully! Not only is it a sign of possible tornadic development, but possible of large hail within the thunderstorm. From the picture, it looks like heavy rain off in the distance - just a brief 'garden variety' thunderstorm - that's all.

There are things in the sky that can be upper level (meaning upper atmosphere) cyclones. These are not the same as tornadoes. So if you happen to see swirling clouds, but the National Weather Service has not decided to announce a tornado warning, chances are that this is not a danger to you. It takes a very specific set of ground-level conditions to create a twister.

Are you kidding?. We can't even accurately predict weather or natural disasters! A couple of large dams around the world have generated small earthquakes by creating water reservoirs where there were none before. other than that put the science fiction stories aside. We are not rainmakers and we certainly can't stop the rain.

I live close to you and a tornado in northern Illinois... not to likely. Some signs before a tornado is the sky is green or black, it might hail, and there will be a silence called the loll. Just be glad you don't live the Texas or Oklahoma panhandle.

There was too much screen showing but to me that looks like just a plain old rain shadow, or as we call it virga. There is now funnel there at all.

The picture wasn't all that clear, but according to the photo it does not look like a tornado. It looks a downburst of very heavy and associated winds.

Well they canceled the tornado watch (which was west of you anyway), so it's unlikely that any tornadoes will form in the area. And I can't see anything in that picture because of the blinds or whatever that is in the foreground.

It could have formed. weather despite our advanced technology to predict sever weather activity and prevent catastrophe due to no warning and preparation, the weather is still unpredictable.
